Sands Hotel & Resort

  • 251 Room I Full Convention Facility
  • Responsible for 140 full time employees.
  • Employee union contract in the hotel.
  • Administer/Delegate a 24 Department Head Management Team.
  • Develop new marketing concept for hotel entirety (ie. Food and Beverage, Room Sales, Banquet/Conventions and Menus).
  • Strategic budget planning (ie. Monthly, quarterly, and annually).
  • $1.5 million renovation program. Completed June l, 1996.
  • Negotiate major contracts for the hotel (ie. Budget Car Rentals, Sasktel, and New Lease Programs).
  • Approved and recommended new Capital Improvements for the hotel.
  • Introduced new Guest Room Marketing Plans.
  • Promoted new Employee Rewards Programs.
  • Successfully converted from the Delta Hotel Chain to the Sands Hotel & Resort

February '91 – March ‘95 President/Owner

Sports Break Travel Program

  • Develop “New” Sport Break Travel Program for Western Canadian sport market
  • Develop advertising and sales budgets to effectively administer a National Program to the sport governing bodies across Western and parts of Eastern Canada.
  • Establish a great sport business to over 100 hotels over the past three years.
  • Negotiate participation contracts with major companies (ie. Budget Canada, Pizza Hut, and Canadian Airlines).
  • Provide a 24 hour toll-free reservation service established in Western Canada.
  • Develop a strong communication link to support all requirements of amateur sport travel.
  • Develop a commission I rebate program to benefit amateur sport associations across Western Canada .
  • Within two years the Sport Break Travel Program has become a well established and widely recognized Sport Support Program across Western Canada.
  • Very successful operation. Sold business to return to Hotel Operations

January '90 – February ‘91 Director of Sales (Canadian Region) Travelodge Hotels

  • Responsible to the National Sales Manager in California , U.S.A. , Miss Rosalind Williams.
  • Sales and Marketing for all Travelodge Hotels in Central Canada . - Implemented marketing and sales plans for each hotel location.
  • Co-ordinated sales calls and blitzes in regional areas.
  • Developed Saskatchewan and Alberta group sales.
  • Co-ordinated new sales strategies.
  • Increased hotel sales in Western Canada .
  • Third highest sales volume in North America .

August '86 – December '89 Director of Marketing and Quality Assurance

Imperial 400 Motels and Ramada Hotels , Saskatchewan

  • Responsible to Vice-President for quality assurance and marketing new hotel marketing plans.
  • Implemented new room marketing plans, room rates, and budgets for 8 Saskatchewan locations (1034 rooms total).
  • Hiring sales representatives for market attacks on government and corporate accounts, and tours.
  • Organized and co-ordinated out of province sales blitzes.
  • Introduced successful winter and summer campaigns, enhancing occupancy and increasing average room rates.
  • Developed new programs: 400 Sport Club, VIP Program., and Government Accounts.
  • Senior Sundays and New Promotions.
  • New marketing budgets.

  • Responsible for areas such as: catering, banquets, and room revenue increases.
  • Planned and co-ordinated promotions and advertising.
